CELEBRATE OHIO’S ASTRONAUTS

Double Film Screening

One night only, Friday July 19, 2024, 7pm WAPA Theatre, Wapakoneta, Ohio Pre-Event “Meet & Greet” at 5:30 PM

THE EVENT

Join us at the historic WAPA Theatre for an evening of film, history, and community spirit, hosted by the Ohio Astronauts non-profit. The evening will feature screenings of the documentaries “Cradle of Astronauts” and “One Small Visit”, a short film set in Wapakoneta by filmmaker Jo Chim
“Cradle of Astronauts” is a captivating 25-minute work-in-progress documentary that weaves together the narratives of Ohio’s legendary astronauts—John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, and Judy Resnik—with the personal odyssey of Bill Hinsch, an artist grappling with adversity. His monumental 12 ft x 9 ft painting, now proudly displayed in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda, serves as a testament to his perseverance and talent. With aspirations to expand the documentary to a full hour, efforts are underway to secure funding for the remaining 35 minutes, with all proceeds from this event dedicated to its completion.

Commissioned to depict Ohio’s esteemed astronauts—Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, Jim Lovell, and Judith Resnik—Bill’s vision illustrates their achievements as pioneers of space exploration.

“One Small Visit"

This heartwarming 30-minute feature tells the true story of the Abrahams, an immigrant Indian family who passes through Neil Armstrong’s Ohio hometown in the wake of the ’69 moon landing and the civil rights movement, ending up on Neil Armstrong’s doorstep. The film is based on the real-life story of executive producer Anisha Abraham’s family. It is written and directed by Jo Chim. The documentary screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers and the family who inspired it.
