THE EVENT

Join us at the historic WAPA Theatre for an evening of film, history, and community spirit, hosted by the Ohio Astronauts non-profit. The evening will feature screenings of the documentary “Cradle of Astronauts” and “One Small Visit” a short film set in Wapakoneta by filmmaker Jo Chim
“Cradle of Astronauts” is a captivating 25-minute work-in-progress documentary that weaves together the narratives of Ohio’s legendary astronauts—John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Jim Lovell, and Judy Resnik—with the personal odyssey of Bill Hinsch, an artist grappling with adversity. His monumental 12 ft x 9 ft painting, now proudly displayed in the Ohio Statehouse Rotunda, serves as a testament to his perseverance and talent.
With aspirations to expand the documentary to a full hour, efforts are underway to secure funding for the remaining 35 minutes, with all proceeds from this event dedicated to its completion.

Meet the Artist

Step into the world of William Hinsch, the little known artist behind the awe-inspiring “Ohioans in Space” mural adorning the Ohio Statehouse rotunda. Renowned for his evocative concepts, Bill has garnered international acclaim, making him a sought-after figure in corporate art. Commissioned to depict Ohio’s esteemed astronauts—Neil Armstrong, John Glenn, Jim Lovell, and Judith Resnik—Bill’s vision illustrates their achievements as pioneers of space exploration.
With aspirations to expand the documentary to a full hour, efforts are underway to secure funding for the remaining 35 minutes, with all proceeds from this event dedicated to its completion.

“One Small Visit"

This heartwarming 30-minute feature tells the true story of the Abrahams, an immigrant Indian family who passes through Neil Armstrong’s Ohio hometown in the wake of the ’69 moon landing and the civil rights movement, ending up on Neil Armstrong’s doorstep. The film is based on the real-life story of executive producer Anisha Abraham’s family. It is written and directed by Jo Chim. The documentary screening will be followed by a conversation with the film makers and the family who inspired it.

Nirmala and OC Abraham, the resilient protagonists whose story unfolds in “One Small Visit” will grace the screening in Wapokoneta, offering firsthand insights into their remarkable journey and the impact it has had on their lives. Prepare to be captivated as they share their experiences and answer questions, shedding light on the power of hope, resilience, and human connection.
Prior to the screenings, an exclusive VIP meet and greet will be held at the Riverside Art Center situated adjacent to the theater. The pre- premier event will feature Bill Hinsch, the artist behind “Ohioans in Space” alongside LoudKid Films producer Alex Hinsch, and Nirmala and OC Abraham, central figures in the film, “One Small Visit.” VIP Ticket Guests for this experience will enjoy premium seating at the double film screening following the pre-premiere event.
An opportunity to view Mr. Hinsch’s preliminary sketches and purchase a scaled purchase prints of “Ohioans in Space” and the accompanying book, “OHIO: Cradle of Astronauts—How 26 Buckeyes Blazed the Trail for Life OFF Earth,” will be on sale. Author Lisa Nicely and artist Bill Hinsch, who illustrated the Ohio astronauts featured in the book, will be present to sign copies.
